behind the fluff (about me)
I am a San Antonio-based artist experimenting with the intersection of different media, including painting, sculpture, and photography. More recently, I have begun investigating new media and how I can merge it into my practice. Thus far, I have enjoyed working with animation as a tool to convey narrative themes, as well as circuitry and mapped projections to alter the form and function of my work.
My art may be broadly defined as a uniquely feminine deconstruction of form that emphasizes themes of time, death, isolation, gender, coming of age, sexuality, mental health, addiction, and the intricacies of interpersonal relationships. I use the human body, commercial objects, nature, geometry, and references to technological innovations as the subjects of my pieces. Aesthetically, a majority of my work uses a bright jewel-toned color palette and collage of subjects, which may appeal to maximalist sensibilities.
I enjoy tackling difficult topics in hopes that my audience will find comfort, solace, or belonging in shared struggles and fears. By attaching narrative themes and characters to my pieces, I am able to comment on issues from a more objective stance. My process for creating work is very intuitive and emotional, resulting in an impressionistic, stylized visual experience. Some of the characters seen in my work are being developed to be used in a coming-of-age comic book and animated series I am currently writing.
